S.A.T.D.S (Scientific Application Tactical Defense System) accredits its origin from my previous experiences with the Judo program at Eastern Kentucky University. At the time, I was the president of the Judo club and a recent appointee to Sensei Charles Ward. One of my main tasks was recruiting new students. At first, I targeted the dormitories and enticed prospective students by demonstrating different types of Judo throws. This technique could be indeed effective, if executed correctly, but at times, it is not the best choice for a defense move against an attacker. I then began to schedule Judo demonstrations to illustrate some other aspects of the art. But I wanted to give the students more than just the Judo throw or the art of Judo in general. I gradually began to assemble several defense techniques that I have learned over the years and combine them into a simple yet very effective course. I wanted a course that was easy to teach, simple to learn, and provoked common sense when defending against an attacker. That is the beginning of the Great Escapes chapter, the 4/1 + 1 chapter, both from the Big 12 Combat Course, and the Women’s Self Defense Course. It has taken over 5 years of constant implementation, refinement, and reimplementation to complete these courses with only self defense in mind. The name of the completed system is S.A.T.D.S. There are three courses within the system: Each course offers something a little different from the next one. All are scientifically researched and applied tactically into a defense system. |
